Bangalore University documents for the United Kingdom

Preparing academic records for UK universities, UK ENIC / Ecctis and professional regulators — including the difference between qualification comparison and the visa/English service, and the limits of an MOI letter.

For the UK, a Bangalore University graduate most often needs either a university to assess their transcript for admission, or a service from UK ENIC / Ecctis. It helps to know these are two different things: the UK ENIC Statement of Comparability compares your qualification to UK levels, while the separate Ecctis qualification/English (visa) service supports UK immigration and English-language evidencing. Regulated professions — nursing with the NMC — add their own rules. This page maps those routes from each body's official guidance.

This is an educational guide for Bangalore University alumni. It explains common patterns — it does not set, or speak for, any agency's requirements. Always confirm current requirements with the organisation receiving your documents.

Where documents go

Major receiving organisations

Different goals mean different organisations — each with its own rules. These are the bodies a United Kingdom pathway commonly involves.

Credential comparison

Compares your qualification to UK levels; applicant uploads documents from the awarding institution

Visa / English service

Ecctis QLS — qualification/English (visa)

Supports UK visa routes; may require the awarding institution to confirm the qualification is genuine

Admissions

UK universities

Assess transcripts and degree proof directly for admission

Profession — nurses

NMC

Registration with its own, specific English-language evidence rules

Government / employer

UKVI / sponsors

May require qualification evidence for visa routes

Documents you may need to prepare

Which of these you actually need depends on the receiving body — you should never prepare documents you don't need.

  • Official transcript / consolidated marks card, signed and dated by the awarding institution
  • Degree certificate (or provisional degree certificate)
  • Passport for identity and, where relevant, visa evidence
  • Approved English-language test results where a body requires them (see the MOI note below)
  • Your UK ENIC / Ecctis or regulator reference number, once a file is open
How it usually works

A typical process

Decide which service or body you need

A UK ENIC Statement of Comparability, the Ecctis visa/English service, a university and the NMC all want different things. Identify yours first.

Check their current requirements

Each publishes and updates its own rules, including on English language. Work from the live requirements.

Prepare documents from the awarding institution

UK ENIC accepts documents from the awarding institution (not an affiliate college); prepare the University-issued transcript and degree accordingly.

Add English evidence if required

If a body requires approved English evidence, arrange it — an MOI letter alone does not automatically meet that requirement.

By agency

Agency & evaluation pathways

Each body sets its own document rules. Preparing to the right standard the first time avoids re-work.

UK ENIC — Statement of Comparability

For the standard comparison, you upload your documents through the online application; UK ENIC states it will only accept documents from the awarding institution and not an affiliate college, and asks for official transcripts signed and dated by the awarding institution. This is an applicant-upload process — the institution does not have to send documents directly.

Ecctis QLS — the visa/English service

Separately from the academic Statement of Comparability, Ecctis runs a qualification/English service for UK visa routes. For this, Ecctis says it will need your awarding institution to confirm that your qualification is genuine, and in some cases may ask you to contact the institution to support verification. Its English-proficiency service maps the language of your study to CEFR levels for visa purposes. Confirm which service your situation actually needs.

UK universities

Many UK universities assess your transcript and degree in-house rather than requiring an outside evaluation, and each sets its own admission and English rules. Follow the specific programme's instructions.

By profession

Profession-specific pathways

The documents and bodies that matter depend on your field. These are common patterns — confirm the specifics for your case.

Postgraduate students

UK master's and professional admissions usually turn on your transcript, degree and English evidence. Some programmes ask for the transcript to be sent directly by the University.

Nurses (NMC) — English

The NMC has more than one way to evidence English, so not everyone sits a test. Its pathways include a test route (IELTS Academic or OET are the accepted tests), a “qualified in English” route (a pre-registration programme taught and examined in English, with defined interaction thresholds), and a recent-practice route in a majority-English country. For training in a non-English-majority country, a taught-and-examined-in-English letter/transcript plus supporting information from your employer may be used; otherwise a language test is needed. An MOI letter on its own is not automatically sufficient — check which pathway fits your situation.

Skilled Worker visa applicants

A sponsor or UKVI may want evidence of your qualification; the Ecctis visa/English service is one common way to present it, but confirm what your specific route needs.

Watch out for

Common problems & delays

  • Confusing the UK ENIC academic Statement of Comparability with the separate Ecctis visa/English service
  • Assuming a Medium of Instruction letter meets a body's English requirement — for the NMC it does not on its own
  • Submitting affiliate-college documents to UK ENIC, which accepts only the awarding institution
  • Overlooking that regulators (like the NMC) run separate registration and English steps
  • Older records needing extra time where a body seeks confirmation from the University
Before you submit

Things worth checking

Older records

Where a UK body seeks confirmation from the awarding institution, older or pre-reorganisation records can take longer. Whether and how such records can be obtained is a University matter — Bangalore University submission procedure should be confirmed for the individual application. Begin early if your degree is from an earlier cohort.

Name mismatches

UK universities and regulators match your documents to your passport. Differences in spelling, initials or surname order between your marks cards, degree and passport can cause queries. Identify and resolve or document any mismatch before submitting.

College vs University

Your teaching college and your awarding university are not the same: the transcript and degree are issued by Bangalore University. This is explicit for UK ENIC, which states it will only accept documents from the awarding institution and not an affiliate college. Submit the University-issued documents and name the affiliated college only where a form requires it.

Verification & attestation

Getting authenticity right

UK bodies establish authenticity in different ways — UK ENIC through applicant-uploaded awarding-institution documents, the Ecctis visa service through the institution confirming genuineness, universities through their own checks — rather than through legalisation, so an apostille is not usually part of a UK academic application. What Bangalore University does at its end is not stated here on its behalf: Bangalore University submission procedure should be confirmed for the individual application.

FAQ

Common questions

The UK ENIC Statement of Comparability compares your qualification to UK levels for academic/employment use. The separate Ecctis qualification/English service supports UK visa routes and may require your institution to confirm the qualification is genuine. Confirm which one your situation needs.
Not on its own. The NMC offers several evidence pathways — a test route (IELTS Academic or OET), a qualified-in-English route, and a recent-practice route — so not everyone must sit a test. For non-English-majority training, a taught-and-examined-in-English letter plus employer supporting information may be used; otherwise a test. An MOI letter alone is not automatically sufficient; check which pathway fits your case.
UK ENIC states it will only accept documents from the awarding institution and not an affiliate college. Use the Bangalore University-issued transcript and degree.
Usually not for academic applications — UK bodies use their own document channels. Some situations may require more, so check your particular case.
